Bloc Party - Intimacy
A tightly cropped photograph reveals a vast amount when coupled with the title "Intimacy." A scene that is not individually personal, but universally relatable.
12. Squish and Separate
Portishead - Third
This one manages to create high tension by squishing the "P" and "3" into the same space, but at different transparencies both are visible. The squished type as a whole is separated nicely from anything else, creating an interesting negative surrounding space.
13. Distribute Light and Dark
Sigur Ros - ( )
This image is all about light and dark distribution. A "window" is created in shapes from the white foreground to reveal an image behind in grays and blacks, inviting a sense of mystery and intrigue. The band name, in a handwritten black font at the bottom, sits declaratively above the white.
14. Be Decisive: Design With Purpose
Feist - Let It Die
The elements of this design are so subtle it necessitates an obvious, decisive placement and use. The small type of the artist name and title, placed just at the mouths of the the two faces, is a deliberate attempt towards a quiet intimacy, drawing attention to the intimately cropped photo.
15. Measure With Your Eyes
Nickel Creek - Why Should the Fire Die?
The album title goes from red to white as it pans across varying background tones for readability, but because the colors and values match so well, the eye doesn't notice the change right away, but instead can read the title uninterrupted as if it were one color.
